Sharing Student Information and Records

The Residence Life staff in your community is available to assist you with any concern you might have about yourself or a friend.

Our staff addresses concerns of mental health, academic challenges, roommate and housing concerns, safety issues, and physical health--among many others. The earlier we know about a situation, the better our ability to help residents get help for themselves and their friends. Providing for residents' well-being is always our staff's first concern.

Occasionally, residents share information that indicates that the Code of Conduct may have been violated. In such situations, we may need to address those concerns, formally or informally. Any situations our staff encounters will need to be documented and handled by our professional staff.

It is the University's policy not to contact parents without a student's consent; however, exceptions to this policy may be made when the University determines that it is necessary to alert parents to compelling academic, health, safety, or disciplinary concerns. If the University determines that parents need to be contacted and there is no emergency, students will first be given a reasonable period of time to contact their parents themselves.

Additionally, if you have an issue residents would like to discuss, but do not feel comfortable sharing it with our staff, we encourage residents to seek out Chaplains-in-Residence and CAPS staff, who are both available as confidential resources.

The Office of Student Conduct maintains judicial records. For details about their confidentiality policies, please visit their website.
