Residents of Color Council (ROCC)
ROCC Mission
The Georgetown University Residents of Color Council
(ROCC) is dedicated to meeting the needs of Georgetown
University students of color who live in our residential
communities. ROCC is open to all persons who are
committed to maintaining an inclusive environment.
The council serves as a resource for students of color
who have grievances, questions, and/or concerns about
their residential experience. In addition, the
council is a body dedicated to programming, outreach,
and advocacy. ROCC fosters, facilitates, and
co-sponsors cultural, educational, social, and service
projects, events, and discussion groups. In order
to achieve these goals, ROCC works in conjunction with
Resident Assistants, Residents, the Office of Residence
Life,
Student of Color Alliance (SOCA), and
InterHall
as well as campus, local, and national organizations.
Ultimately, we are committed to ensuring that student of
color at Georgetown University have their interests and
values respected and represented in our residential
community.
ROCC has teamed up with the Tunnel of Oppression
Committee to collaborate on making the Tunnel program a
campus-wide program.
The Tunnel of Oppression diversity training empowers
student and profession staff members to create a
dynamic, interactive training session. Using
skits, video, passive elements, and reflection, staff
members engage each other in conversations about their
own experiences of their residents on Georgetown's
campus. The "tunnel" portion is both an active and
passive opportunity to remember the difficulties still
faces by our world community, as we strive to become a
better society. As a Jesuit University, one of our
guiding principles is to be "men and women for others."
We hope that this diversity training program and other
make our student and professional staff more educated
and more deliberate in this goal.
