University Policies & Procedures

In choosing to live in the campus community, Hoyas have tremendous opportunities to get to know students, faculty, and staff in a more holistic way.

This community has established expectations and rights for those living in it.  We encourage residents to take time to learn the expectations of this great community they are invited to call home.

Student Code of Conduct

The Student Code of Conduct established expectations for all Georgetown students.  The Office of Residence Life assists in enforcing these policies in the residence halls and apartments.  Our student staff document alleged violations and our professional staff adjudicate many cases that occur in their buildings.

Incident Report Process

The complete and official outline of incident report processes is available in the Student Code of Conduct.  Residents should know that the student staff (RAs and Hds and ACs)  in Residence Life simply document what appear to be violations of the Code.  Decisions about whether the incident merits judicial action or whether a student is responsible are made by our professional staff only (HDs and ACs), in conjunction with The Office of Student Conduct.

Residential Judicial Council

The RJC is a student-run organization that hears cases of alleged violations by peers in the Georgetown residence halls and apartments.  RJC "seeks not to create community for students at Georgetown, but rather empowers students to conceive it themselves."

Housing Agreement

The Housing Occupancy Agreement, produced by the Office of Housing Services, outlines many expectations of students living on campus.  This document addresses such issues as time for move-in/out, payment for living on campus, responsibility for the condition of facilities, and rights reserved by the university for relocating students.

Recycling on Campus

Georgetown Recycles manages recycling in all the residence hall and apartments on campus.  Visit their website to learn details about how to recycle on campus.

Guest Policy

Because the residence halls and apartments are primarily space for students to live and learn in an academic environment, Georgetown upholds expectations about guest visits.

In this space, you can find events being hosted by our department, our student groups, Community Councils, and in Alumni Lounge. To determine if the event is open, and other details, click on the link for each event.

Community Living Agreements

RJC is just one example of how residents create and uphold expectations for their own communities.  Each floor creates a Community Living Agreement.

Roommate Agreements

Georgetown has expectations for its residents, but we also know residents have expectations of each other.  Each set of roommates or apartment-mates are offered the chance to create an agreement for their living space.
