Why Live On Campus

At Georgetown, first-year and sophomore students are required to live on-campus because of the significant benefits most students experience and most Hoyas want to live on-campus at Georgetown.  Life on campus at Georgetown is busy, exciting, a great way to meet people, and a wonderful and comfortable introduction to the vibrant community of Georgetown, Georgetown University, and Washington, DC.

Students who live on campus generally become more involved on campus and adjust to campus life sooner.  Nationally, resident students graduate at a higher rate than those who live off-campus.

That said, some of our juniors and seniors do choose to live off-campus.  If you’re considering that, we recommend contacting the Office of Off-Campus Student Life for information about landlords, utilities, and life in Georgetown’s neighborhoods.

"Living in Village C West has been the perfect fit for me my freshman year.  I was able to study with few interruptions when I needed to study but I also found really good friends with whom I could spend my free time." -Mallory Warner, VCW 7X Resident, Class 2009

"When I arrived at Georgetown in the fall of 2002, I, like most people, had making new friends as a top concern.  The feeling of community in Harbin helped foster friendships that have lasted to this day, as I still in my senior year live with a couple of other great guys from my floor.  Although I've branched out into many other groups of friends, everyone from Harbin 7 still has a special place in my heart." --Scott Cheney-Peters, COL '06

"Living on campus has allowed me to feel closer to not only the Georgetown community, but the community within my residence hall.  I know that the friendships I have made in Darnall are ones that I will carry with me throughout my remaining years at Georgetown and the rest of my life.  I can honestly say that I could not have wished for a better residential community than the one I have experienced here, in Darnall."  --Chloe Waddington, COL'09

"The intimate floor set-up makes VCW ideal for making lasting friendships.  The community spirit is ever present throughout the halls of VCW." -Kenneth Gillette, VCW 3Y Resident, Class of 2009

"Something there is that doesn't love Healy Lawn.  But that something doesn't exist here.  On a sunny Georgetown day, I get so excited to see the sprawling greenery decorated with college students and venerable old oaks in the heart of urban American that I'll stop to spend hours sitting and reading a book or tossing a frisbee.  Everyone loves the Lawn.  BBQs and concerts, sightings of international royalty and world leaders, volleyball and waterballoon fights are the norm.  It's all in the pursuit of my favorite part of cura personalis; glorious recreation Georgetown-style." --D. Pierce Nixon, COL '08

"The fact that the floors are split up into two wings means that you have a smaller, more intimate group of freshmen on your floor to get acquainted with.  I really loved this because it gave you the chance to form closer relationships."  -Ingrid Miskinis, VCW 3X Resident, Class 2009
